SOPA is an American legislative bill, proposed before the House of Representatives on October 26th, 2011, and is short for the "Stop Online Piracy Act". It is one of two bills under consideration by the U.S. Congress. The other is Senate bill "PROTECT-IP Act".
Under the pretence of combatting online crime, these bills have the potential to seriously harm the free nature of the Internet as we know it, and possibly diminish YOUR voice.
On January 18th, several major internet communities(including WikiPedia, reddit, CheezBurger Network and Wordpress) will blackout in protest of these proposed legislative acts of internet censorship.
